When it comes to wedding planners, Donnie Brown is the diva of them all; after all, he has planned over 2,000 of them.
Somehow, Phillip Barloco ended up with Molly Allbright’s phone number. There might have been drinking involved. But the first date they had planned was ruined when Phillip ditched her to hang out with his friends instead. Molly gave him another chance, however, and they are both happy she did.
Molly works in finance and Phillip in real estate. When looking to buy a condo, Molly obviously wanted to buy from Phillip. While going through the paperwork and initialing, she noticed an unusual note. When Molly looked above the place to sign, she noticed “Will you marry me?” was typed out in bold letters. Molly was shocked, elated ... and signed on the bottom line.
This fun couple and their fun planner even settled on a humorous theme – “Rat Pack” city chic, complete with jazz, a knee-length ’50s wedding dress, a ’60s Vegas hotel room and gambling galore at the wedding. With a busy career and a move prior to the wedding, Molly asked her mom to step in. But mom lives 1,000 miles away in Nashville, and the wedding is in San Antonio. But a week before the 80-guest, $15,000 wedding, Donnie Brown is called in to do this San Antonio wedding that is monopolizing all of mom’s time. While Donnie doesn’t do a lot of theme weddings, he does enjoy thinking outside the box. But will this wedding be too out of the ordinary?
In April 2007, both Chetan Shah and Rupali Patel had given up on dating. Good thing they each gave the other’s Internet profile another glance. Rupali lives in Philadelphia and Chetan lives in Houston; fortunately, he likes traveling. Two months after chatting online, he flew to Philadelphia so they could meet. After a weekend romance, they knew they had each found the one. So, Chetan began planning a surprise proposal ... but the father of the bride got in the way.
After Chetan asked Rupali’s father for permission to marry her, her father took full control and began planning the wedding. While this was nice of dad, the whole thing backfired when the venue and other vendors began e-mailing Rupali about the details of the wedding. Rupali put all the pieces together. Rupali's dad is coincidentally named King and works in the hospitality profession. King’s first task: to invite everyone from his kingdom to the event. The family alone is 250 people, and now the guest list has reached a staggering 900, stretching the event over three days and a budget of $300,000.
Fortunately, Sonal Shah specializes in Indian weddings. This will be the biggest wedding of her career. In fact, this wedding is so big that even the planner’s family is on the guest list. As it turns out, Sonal’s family is friends with the bride’s family – meaning Sonal will have to plan a wedding that her parents will see. This marks the first wedding Sonal has planned that her parents will witness.
It’s high noon in San Antonio, and sheriff Donnie is riding into town. When going over the theme and color scheme, Donnie is amused. The couple has decided on cobalt blue, black, and white. A lounge-y feel is also wanted. But what is not wanted is the groom’s cake: Phillip wants a meat cake. For those residing outside of Texas, a meat cake is merely meatloaf that is “iced” with mashed potatoes. Donnie is not amused anymore. Even the bride and her mother are slightly disgusted, but the groom’s mom is lovingly making the meat cake for her son.
